CFB: Other Key Saturday College Games
Of the non-BCS leagues and non-conference games on the board for Saturday, three stand out among the crowd.
Of the non-BCS leagues and non-conference games on the board for Saturday, three stand out among the crowd. In Chapel Hill, North Carolina welcomes Notre Dame to town, while across the country, BYU hosts Mountain West rival New Mexico. Like the Cougars, the Boise State Broncos are also still BCS-party crashing hopefuls. They'll be at Southern Miss on Saturday. Here's a quick look at those three games.
Notre Dame @ North Carolina (-7.5, Total = 46.5)
After a couple of descent wins, Notre Dame plays another one of the "swing" games followers talked about for 2008. The Irish do look better this season and make first visit to Chapel Hill since 1975. Notre Dame is 17-5 ATS in road games in October and is 6-3 ATS as road dog under gimpy coach Charley Weis. This is North Carolina's 2nd straight non-conference tilt after hosting Connecticut last week and they are 7-4 ATS on the back end of such a situation. North Carolina is 8-19 ATS at home in non-ACC affairs. This will be the 18th meeting between these two universities and Notre Dame has lost just once.

New Mexico @ BYU (-22.5, Total = 50.5)
Since losing to Tulsa last season, BYU has won 16 games in a row (7-6 ATS). In that mix was a close 31-24 victory at New Mexico. What is noteworthy is the visiting team has covered six in a row in this Mountain West Conference matchup. The Lobos are in fact 24-14-1 ATS as away pooches the last 10 campaigns. This could be a special team in Provo, with this being the next step. The Cougars are 17-8 ATS in MWC action under coach Mendenhall, who installed the Lobos 3-3-5 defense as assistant there in late 90's. If BYU gets the offense in gear, they are 26-8 ATS out-gaining opponents by 200 or more YPG.

Boise State (-10.5, Total = 54) @ Southern Miss
This will be a real challenge for Boise State seeking to stay unbeaten. The Broncos have the unusual record of 7-6-3 ATS in non-conference road adventures the last 8 years. They are starting to look like Boise State teams of old putting up big numbers and playing good defense. The Broncos are 56-33 ATS off a SU win. Southern Miss has suffered odd home losses to Marshall and UTEP and tries to rebound. The Golden Eagles are 5-7-1 ATS as double digit underdogs and are 13-17-1 in non-conf. contests. (3-0 TY) Key number is 28, Boise is 67-23 ATS when they reach it and USM is 12-35 ATS when they allow it.
